Michigan's new smoking ban... [Dec. 12th, 2009|10:39 am]
[mood |bitchybitchy]

I don't have a problem with Michigan's new smoking ban, per se...

I DO, however, take great umbrage to what it represents - yet ANOTHER government incursion into our personal freedoms...

Now, before all the anti-smokers start flaming me; understand that I'M ONE OF YOU! Since I've quit, my tolerance for the stench of cigarette smoke has totally dissipated.

My love of *Freedom*, and the America's Founding Principles of Life, LIBERTY, and the Pursuit of Happiness, haven't faded!!

What's next? Government banning video games? Hell, it's proven that playing video games is bad for your health (due to the sedentary lifestyle), and hard core gamers (can) smell just as bad as hard core smokers! :)

...and another one falls... [Jun. 28th, 2009|01:06 pm]
Of all the celebrity deaths lately, this one is a bit of a shocker...
I was just getting into watching "Pitchmen", his show with Anthony Sullivan.  I actually started liking the guy, despite how annoying his commercials and infomercials were.  I'm really rather bummed about this...

As far as the death of MJ,  "Molester to the Stars", I say good riddance to bad rubbish.  I know that's not very tolerant, or PC but damnit, if you're stupid enough to pull the stunts he has over the last 15-20 years, you deserve to be removed from the gene pool!

Oh, and I WILL miss Ed McMahon - he was the classiest of the bunch, one of the last of what I consider to be the "old school" talent. RIP, Ed...

280ish... [Jun. 27th, 2009|05:35 pm]

Weighed myself yesterday; right around 280 - Considering that out of the last 3 weeks, I've spent 2 of them on the road, eating like a King...
I was able to keep working out, and was pleased to see that I've got to work harder to get my heart rate up to the target zone.. Guess I'm doing something right :)

My muscles are a bit sore today, did a lot of weight lifting yesterday... walked today to loosen up, but I think I'm gonna take Short Man down to the pool and go swim. That ought to help the rest of the sore muscles!

I did, however, discover my latest guilt-free treat! Frozen Grapes!!! Yeah, it sounds wierd, but strip a bunch of grapes off the vine, and toss 'em in the freezer... it's like bite sized popsicles, only better! (Plus, it has the added benefit of making me eat them slower, so a bunch of grapes won't be inhaled!)

Oh, and I fixed the loose step on the deck today - gotta get my butt in gear and get the shed door trim painted, wash the siding, and decide if I'm going to build a new deck...

Still on track;  weighed in at 289 yesterday!!!
I'm really noticing the increased energy now...
My back's quit hurting, and I rarely hit the snooze button when 0430 rolls around!
I've dropped at least 2 inches from my waist...
I've noticed that my belly jiggles a lot more, now that it's a bit smaller! ;)

I'm keeping on, keepin' on!

It's a great motivational tool, too...

Big Hugs to all of ya!

Ok, so I'm officially into my new fitness regime; up out of bed at 0430, 3 or 4 miles of walking, and some weights to keep from getting bored.
I find that the routine's working pretty well for me.  On the weekends, I'm sleeping in until about 6, and then getting to the gym.  I'm feeling pretty good, getting into the rhythm and keeping motivated.

Breakfast is usually an oatmeal or granola bar and my normal COFFEEEEEEEE!!
Lunch is whatever the hell I want!
Dinner is fruits and veggies. One of my favorites is a half cup of plain or vanilla yogurt with fruit and a bit of grape nuts or cheerios for some texture.

I've noticed that by letting myself eat whatever I want for lunch, I accomplish a couple of things:  freedom to eat with the folks at work, and a rib-sticking meal.   I've also noticed that I'm eating smaller portions, and significantly more salads and "healthy stuff" than I was.. it also seems to last longer these days.

Oh, and my progress?  on 4/4, I was about 320#.  Today, I weighed in at 290.

I'll take it.

Now, I've got 11 months to get the other 70lbs off to my goal of 220#.

Go ME!

Day #1 of the big Four-Oh [May. 3rd, 2009|08:25 pm]

[mood |energeticenergetic]
[music |Tonic - Mountain]

Well, for those of you who know (and/or care), yesterday was my 40th birthday.

Yeah, so what. It's another birthday.  I ain't dead, and have no plans for that for at least another 50 years!

I have chosen this point to make some rather fundamental changes in my life.

Recently, I started going to the gym regularly (!) and have found that I *can* get up at 4:30 am on my own, but I actually feel better afterwards.

I'm down about 20lbs from increased exercise and changing a few eating choices.

The biggest thing, however, isn't just that.  It's all part of my "No more Wishing, just make it happen" philosophy.  I spent the first 40 years of my life wishing for things to happen, now it's time to MAKE them happen.

#1 on my list is my weight.  It's not gonna go down on it's own, so I've gotta do it.

#2 on my list is my fitness level.  It's not gonna go UP on it's own, so I've gotta do it.  (Plus, it'd be REALLY cool to compete in the Scott Firefighter's Challenge, and not make an ass of myself!)

I'm sure that more items will make the list, but these first two are the most vitally important.

Ok, nuff for now.

Represent, Brother Theo!! [Apr. 22nd, 2009|05:49 pm]

[music |Kiss My Country Ass - Rhett Akins]

I saw  this article about a fire in Detriot. What struck me most were two of the final 3 paragraphs, where my new role model, Theodore Copely said the following, while replying to a comment about being called a hero: "I'm just a firefighter and I will be back tomorrow to do the same thing,"

THIS is why he's my new role model - he said what most of us firefighters think and feel when folks bandy the word "Hero" around...  We don't do it for glory, or for fame, or because firefighter groupies are Hott -- we do it because it's our job, and we love it.

Represent, Brother Theo!
